What’s the definition of a Youtube sensation? If you look it up, you might find one face next to the definition…B-Hamp. The Dallas, Texas-based rapper jetted on to the scene with the catchy dance the Ricky Bobby and plans on capitalizing off its popularity.
The dance that has to date almost 1.2 million views on the popular video site in less than a year has taught people worldwide how to “Do the Ricky Bobby”. The dance got its influence from the popular Will Ferrell movie Talladega Nights and its main character [played by Ferrell] Ricky Bobby. “The Ricky bobby was [an] influence off the movie, Talladega Nights,” he said with a laugh during his interview with Dofattv.com
But the baby-faced 23-year-old says he is done with dance songs, “Naw I’m done on the dance thing but I will always dance @ my shows cause it just in me but no more dance songs,” the smirking Brandon Hampton where he gets his rap name from said. He wants to show his versatility. “Just rap I’m not a gangsta but I know about it cause of my friends but I can rap about anything,” he said confidentally. “So really just how I’m feeling at the moment,” the Dallas-born rapper added.
Since music has always been a passion of his and he never was in a position where he wanted to give up, Hamp has plenty of stories to tell his fans now and in the future. “Giving up was never an option, I would still be making music until I’m 45,” he said with a grin patting his hair down with his hand.
With so much attention on himself in 2010, Hamp [as he is also known by] knows he has to keep his buzz going. Right now, he is going through a self-proclaimed “grind time” a period he says is the follow up to the Ricky Bobby where he wants to make sure he keeps himself relevant within the industry.
To keep himself relevant he shot a new video called “Fooly” another word that describes his personality along with venturing into the fashion industry as he is endorsed by The Forever K Michale Collection [an eyewear company]. Musically, the “Fooly” guy is working on The 3 soundtrack with Lions Gate Films and projects with all the CKB Entertainment including Moshan,Cor’ess,Lil Rick,Lush, & Aqquaman.
The humble, laid-back rapper seems to be on the right path to keeping himself a topic of interest in an industry that can be very harsh. He is familiar with the rigors of a rapper trying to turn his dreams into fruition as well as trying to carry a 9-5 to support his cause. “I use to hit up 3 clubs a night for like 3 weeks to get my song to the DJ’s in all the clubs in the area and I would turn around and wake up @ 7 to go to work every morning but I would grind to get where I’m going,” B-Hamp admitted to Dofat TV users.
The rapper also was not given special treatment as he shares with the viewers of the entertainment channel an anecdote of a time when he drove from his home in Texas with friends to perform at the popular BET show, 106th & Park. “The craziest thing to me was when we [his buddies and him] drove to New York to do 106th & Park,” the Lone Star state native said with amusement. B-Hamp is well aware of where he came from and how far he has come and knows he has a lot of ground to cover to get where he wants in this industry.
It is that same humility he wants to share with all his fans as he is not afraid to hold conversations with everyone who contacts him. “I want them to know that don’t ever think I’m too famous to talk to y’all, I’ll always be a reqular person in my mind and I will talk and treat people the way I wanna be treated,” the modest rapper told the users who tuned in.
If the saying “the meek shall inherit the earth” is true then Hamp should have the earth his fairly soon.
Two years after the popular dance came out the grateful rapper is “grindin’” and wants to thank all the DJ’s who gave him an opportunity to be heard by the people who would eventual become his fans. He was also caring enough to thank the Dofat TV users for wanting him for an interview, “Thank y’all for wanting me for the interview,” he said genuinely.
Humility? Check. Hard-working? Check. Respectful? Check. Passion for music? Check. With all those qualities culminated within him, B-Hamp has all the makings of a rapper who will have longevity in this game. Dofat TV and its user would like to wish good luck to Brandon Hampton!
